Lucky Toad – lucky charm vase
Lucky Toad vase is a lucky charm vase in shaped of a toad and composed of inkjet powder or ceramic, limited edition, CNAP Acquisition 2015
“(…) This vase origin is a taste for collecting. Laureline accumulates objects – gadgets, industrial rollers, fetishes, lucky charms – which she brings back from afar : Peru, China… so many little things, humble allegories, calls of destiny and talismans supposed to mollify chance. Hence the toads, symbolic but with everyday functions. Consequently, a certain strangeness arises from this animal shaped colour cast, a disturbing presence, where the vase becomes an animal which absorbs the flower, a praying mantis or a scale model domestic Minautor. A minimal but very real violence. A little fright, whereby a flower exposes and loses itself. (…) It is also a vase which, despite everything, does not turn into a decorative and ornemental overdose, because the mind recollects the poetry of disappearance, responsible for turning flowers into so many metaphors for the passing of time and life as it flees. There is a melancholic touch to this offering, therefore, where the ornament intensifies the violence of devouring and sacrifice. (…) ”

Laureline Galliot (born 1986) graduated with honors from the Ensci-Les Ateliers school in 2012. By re-injecting principles derived from her practice of painting in industrial design, Galliot imagined a creative process that enables the design of objects more intuitively than with traditional 3D modeling software. By taking advantage of an animated cinema software, she proposes to design objects by piles of materials, textures and colors through gestures such as those of a painter.
This research gave birth to a 3D printed collection, Line & Mass : a 3D palette, a mask and a tea pot, to demonstrate the potential applications of this creation process in everyday life. Continuing her research, she applied it to Lucky Toad vase, which won the Prize for the Conseil General du Var in Villa Noaille’s Design Parade 8 in summer 2013.
Mathieu Peyroulet Ghilini (born 1983) graduated with honors from the Ensci-Les Ateliers school in 2012 with his Sophistication diploma. Based mainly on design and architecture history, this work focused on diverses interpretations of the sophistication of a shape ending with the proposal of four trestles. This research had been shown in the Design Parade 8 festival, in which he won the Grand Prix of the Jury. As a result, Peyroulet Ghilini was a designer-in-residency at Sèvres, Cité de la Céramique and at Centre International de Recherche en Art Verrier, CIRVA, in Marseille.
The result for both Galliot and Peyroulet-Ghilini of the one-year research with support of Villa Noailles were shown in Summer 2014 Design Parade 9, then travelled to Passagen Festival IMM Köln, Paris-based D’DAYS festival, Galeries Lafayette and Espace d’Art Le Moulin in La Valette du Var.
The present clients of Laureline and Mathieu are research centers Disney Research Pittsburgh, Centre de Recherche en Art Verrier (CIRVA), historical manufacture Sèvres-Cité de la Céramique, elegant interaction engineers Soixante Circuits, french public instutions Centre National des Arts Plastiques(CNAP), Centre Pompidou, and gallery Kreo.
